About The Founder

Hi! I’m Milton Palacio

I’m frequently asked about our interpreting services and what made me decide to start MVP Translations, Inc., so I wanted to share with you a little about my journey here…

I was born in Colombia, S.A., and came to the United States in 1983 at the age of 15. As a young man, I did not know any English, but still, a few days later I was placed in an all-English school to continue my education. I remember how helpless I felt being in a classroom and not being able to understand anything the teacher was explaining. I clearly remember one occasion when the teacher called on me with a question and I did not understand what he was saying. The next words out of his mouth were, “Don’t you understand English” Sadly, I didn’t. That day I realized I had to learn English, and not just for me, but to help others who might have felt the same way. I remember the struggles I faced trying to make it through high school, but most importantly, I remember all the people who always did their best to help me with my language challenge. It was with their help that I was finally able to communicate in English and graduate. I could not have made it without them!

MVP Translations — we speak your languages across the USA

During my years at Aviation High School I developed a sense of pride in living in the United States and after a year in college I decided to join the U.S. Navy in 1989…

Milton Palacio as a young U.S. Navy sailor

While in the military, I continued facing many challenges with the language, however, I was proud to be a member of the armed forces and continued serving for several years. I was deployed and served during the Persian Gulf War in Desert Storm/Desert Shield and consequently received an honorable discharge in 1996 concluding my Navy career.

My next goal was to finish the process to become a U.S. Citizen.

While in the Navy, I applied twice to become a U.S. Citizen. However, both times I received a letter to interview for my citizenship I was out at sea in the service of our country, thus, being forced to miss the appointments. Fortunately, I learned that I needed to speak better English to obtain my citizenship, so I continued improving my language skills. After leaving the Navy, I applied one more time and was finally able to attend my appointment and obtain my citizenship.

The moment I realized I had found my career path.

After I left the Navy I went on to explore different jobs, looking for something that would make me feel fulfilled, and during that time, I was able to help my family and others who were facing the same language challenges and struggles I had faced. This led me to an opportunity to become involved in the language industry, and it was then I realized that this is what I wanted to do as a career. I worked for an interpretation and translation company for several years, and then as an independent freelance interpreter and field adjuster when I decided to start my own interpretation, translation and transcription business.
