Simultaneous or Consecutive: Which Does Your Event Need?
Simultaneous interpreting happens in real time. The interpreter speaks while the presenter speaks, and the audience listens through headsets. It suits keynotes, general sessions and any room where most of the audience needs the interpretation. For a long session or a full day, send us the agenda and we will plan the interpreting coverage around it.
Consecutive interpreting happens in turns. The speaker pauses and the interpreter renders what was said. It suits meetings, negotiations, trade show booths, tours and Q&A, where a few people are talking with each other. It takes longer than simultaneous, so build the extra time into the agenda.
Not sure which your event needs? Send us the agenda and we will tell you. MVP Translations is led by Milton Palacio, a Florida Certified Court Interpreter. For legal and business interpreting outside events, see our interpreting services.
Event Interpreting FAQ
Yes. Trade show interpreting is usually consecutive or liaison work on the exhibition floor: the interpreter stays with your team at the booth, in meetings with buyers, and on the walk between them. Tell us the show, the dates, the languages your visitors speak and the hours you need covered, and we will match the interpreter to your industry.
Yes. For plenary sessions and keynotes we provide simultaneous interpreting, so the audience follows the session in real time. For breakouts, panels and Q&A we can provide consecutive interpreters. Send us the agenda and we will tell you how many interpreters the day needs.
Yes. Seminars, symposiums, continuing-education sessions and corporate training are interpreted simultaneously for a mixed-language audience, or consecutively for a small group. Interpreters are matched to the subject, and we ask for slides or handouts in advance so terminology is prepared before the session, not during it.
Yes. For client meetings, negotiations and presentations we provide a consecutive or liaison interpreter who interprets everything said, in both directions, and nothing more. The interpreter does not advise, summarize or take part in the conversation, which keeps the negotiation exactly as you intended it.
